About Us

À propos du Japon (About Japan) is a non-profit association founded over twelve years ago by Fabienne Jacquemin, its Founder and President.

Fabienne lived in Japan, mainly in Tokyo, for six years, where she completed part of her higher education. She also worked in Paris for renowned Japanese companies, including Canon and Pola. Fluent in Japanese, she travels throughout the country with ease and has developed a deep admiration for its people, traditions, and culture. Passionate about Japan, she is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

After moving to the Gard region in the south of France, Fabienne realized that, despite Japan's growing popularity, many people knew the country only through manga and sushi. While these are important aspects of Japanese culture, they represent only a small part of what Japan truly has to offer.

Rich in centuries-old traditions, refined arts, breathtaking landscapes, and unique customs, Japan is a country of remarkable cultural diversity. Convinced that there was much more to discover and understand, Fabienne founded À propos du Japon more than ten years ago with the mission of introducing people to the true spirit of Japan and fostering a deeper appreciation of its culture and heritage.

Association's Vice President. Together, he and Fabienne have steadily built an organization that has become a leading reference within the Franco-Japanese cultural community in France.

À propos du Japon organizes a three-day cultural festival held in different cities across France. The association also offers one or two trips to Japan each year, giving its members the opportunity to discover the country's traditions, customs, and way of life, from Kyoto to Tokyo.

In addition, the association provides Japanese language courses, Japanese cooking workshops held in unique and inspiring venues, and cultural activities designed to immerse participants in authentic Japanese experiences. Educational and cultural outreach programs are also organized for schools and businesses throughout France to promote a deeper understanding of Japan. The association also offers translation services and personalized support for individuals and organizations.

The primary mission of À propos du Japon is to introduce newcomers to the many facets of Japan by sharing its history, culture, traditions, arts, and contemporary society, fostering a genuine appreciation of this fascinating country.
